Born and raised in Norway, I first arrived in Namibia as an intern myself in 2009, carrying little more than a suitcase full of hippie clothes and dreams of a different life. What began as a temporary adventure became a life-changing journey — one that shaped the person I am today and eventually led me to the joy of calling Namibia home with my three beautiful daughters.

My own experiences as an intern taught me that the most meaningful parts of an international internship often happen beyond the workplace. The professional experience matters, but so does everything that happens around it: navigating a new culture, building unexpected relationships, finding your place in unfamiliar surroundings, and being challenged to see the world — and yourself — differently.

This is at the heart of why I created NamIntern. I want students to have the opportunity to experience Namibia not simply as a place where they complete an internship, but as a place that can become a mirror for their own growth and self-discovery. Through mentorship, I encourage students to pause, reflect, ask questions, and become curious about what their experiences are teaching them about themselves.

My role is therefore not only to help students navigate their professional placement, but to walk alongside them through the wider experience of living and working in Namibia. I create a space where they can reflect on challenges, recognise their strengths, explore new perspectives, and make sense of the changes that can happen when we step outside what is familiar.

For me, NamIntern is ultimately about creating experiences that stay with you long after you leave Namibia. My hope is that students return home with more than professional experience — with greater confidence, broader perspectives, meaningful connections, and a deeper understanding of who they are and who they want to become.

As an occupational therapist specializing in children and development, I find my greatest inspiration in my family. My dear husband and I have called Namibia our home for 13 years after moving here from South Africa – and we have fallen in love with this beautiful country and its endless opportunities for adventure. I have a deep passion for children and supporting others in their growth and development. Being part of NamIntern gives me the opportunity to combine my love for relationships, learning and community engagement. I am passionate about guiding students on their personal and professional journeys, while working together on meaningful projects in local communities. “Namibia is not just a destination – it is an experience that stays with you forever.”
